kindle dilemma

For Christmas I asked for a Kindle.

1- I love to read

2- I love to look up words I don't know

3- I love to make notes

4- Once I am done with a book I like to pass it on or take it back to the library {so it doesn't collect dust at home}

5- I love the idea of loading a bunch of books for a trip and having them all in this little itty bitty device

Okay so here is my dilemma. I love the smell of a library book. I love receiving a book from amazon at my door, going to bed early with some tea and diving in. I love knowing what page I am on. The Kindle is taking me away from the simple yet divine characteristics of a book with pages. I just finished my first book on the Kindle 'My Life in France' by Julia Child's and I am not in love with my device. I was able to look up all the words and I do have a great list of 'notes' referencing places to go in Paris and fabulous recipes BUT I am not sold. Maybe the Kindle is for travel and when I am home I will 'check one out.' thoughts?

  1. Me too - one of the best I've read in a long time...but sadly, I think I agree on the kindle...don't think I could divorce my "holding" of books. Plus, I love to write in them!

  2. I love Ebook readers but you lose a tactile feeling.

    My romantic thoughts about old books:
    1)The idea of knowing the book was special enough to someone to take good care of it for so many years
    2)Others before me have read these same pages and lived through the storyline that I'm experiencing.
    3)I am connected to people in the past, present, and future who will read the book and feel the same experience.
