our laundry room

So this is probably my favorite room in the house. I have done laundry at the laundromat {I have some pretty good stories}, I have done it outside and most recently we have been doing laundry in the garage. So now having this space is totally dreamy. Basically it is a hallway between our garage and bedroom. We punched the wall out into the garage for the washer and dryer {which is why there is a soffit}. This helped us save some square feet and made a cozy little laundry area/ mud room.

If you look out the back door you will see Ross's 'surf shack' this is where he stores all of his boards and there is an outside shower too. Since we finished our remodel in the fall we haven't fully taken advantage of this zone in relation to our new laundry room. The idea is that we can come home from the beach, shower off and come in from the side door. I know this will be especially wonderful when Ross, Henry, maybe #2 and friends come home from surfing {oh my goodness summer really can not come soon enough}.

When I was designing the build outs for this room I had one thing in mind, my laundry truck. I had been on the hunt and I found one a year ago, here. Also I wanted a good place to store all of Henry's art supplies so the drawer above the truck is a total mess but it is full of playdoh, stamps, crayons, paper... you name it. I feel like it is so important to have a good stop for all of that stuff.

Now we enter the house from the garage into the laundry room {which I love}. It used to go right into the kitchen and now I can unload and deal-with-later. Oh also I almost forgot to mention the chalk wall. This took a little bit of convincing, Ross thought that it would make the room feel small. And I have to say that it probably makes the room feel a little smaller but it doesn't bother me and Ross loves it now. We write little messages to each other, reminders, grocery lists, and most importantly Henry's scribbles all live here. I now believe that every house needs a chalk wall.

And lastly this cube-o-soap is from my trip to France. I was told that in France they use this soap to wash their face, hair, hands, clothing.... everything. When we come home and Henry is a total dirt ball I throw him in the sink and lather him up with this soap. If you ask Ross he smells a little like vegetable oil but I love it... I think of all the little French boys who smell the same.

  1. I love your laundry room! One of my favorite things about it, the pop of color that Ross' boards add. I can't wait to one day design my own laundry room--I will definitely use yours as inspiration
I agree every house does need a chalk wall. We put one in the kitchen since we always seem to all end up in there. It's so nice to have Bronson drawing and keeping busy while I cook.

  3. Wow. I never thought that I would be jealous over a laundry room.

It is perfect. I would love something like that for our family (subbing skiis for the surf boards). What a dream it would be to leave all of that damp stuff in the laundry instead of tracking it all the way through the house.

  9. Gorgeous! Your home is really so well put together -- every little detail is considered and thought through to create amazing rooms. There are two things my home will have someday that will let me know I've officially "made" it: a library and a laundry room as beautiful as yours.

  10. Love the laundry room and love how you're using your laundry truck. I remember when you were on the hunt for it and now it has the perfect home. In Florida, we lived next to a house that had six kids and all the boys surfed. They had an outdoor shower and a surfboard shack. Knew way back then that it was super cool and so happy that you have it in your life. The smell of surf wax, laundry soap and fresh flowers ~ pure joy!

  17. Ahah, I just discover your blog and read your part over the 'savon de Marseille'. Indeed, my little french boys (3 in total) all smell like it. I also use the soap for washing the nappies of the latest one, and they're immaculate.
I also love this little room, the view on the surf boards and the wall, the wall...
Now I go to discover more of your blog!
