The fabulous Catherine from Rikshaw Design will be down in my neck of the woods on Thursday for a little R&R + a trunk show. I told her that I would help direct her to some great little spots for when she is not basking in the sun, with the sand between her toes {I am hoping that 'June Gloom' goes away fast}. While I was typing up a few ideas I thought it would be a fun post + I want to spread the word about her trunk show. If you are in town we would love to see you!
First where to stay: L' Auberge, this hotel is absolutely gorgeous and in our sleepy town this is where all the action is + they have an amazing restaurant and beautiful ocean views.
For breakfast: I love Zinc Cafe if you just want a little pastry and a coffee. If you want something more substantial either Naked Cafe or Claire's on Cedros both are organic & super delicious.
For Mexican food: You can't come to San Diego and not get Mexican food. Whenever I travel, even for a few days, I feel like Mexican food is always my first stop. If you want a restaurant, my favorite is Fidel's. If you grew up in this area you know that you are either a "Fidel's Family" or a "Tony's Family" they are right next door to each other and we always went to Fidel's. If you want Mexican that comes in a white bag and great to eat on a towel at the beach you must go to Roberto's.
For a glass of wine with a view: Walk across the street to the Del Mar Plaza and sit outside at Enoteca. This is the perfect place to watch the sunset and if the Del Mar Races are going, my favorite place for people watching {wink}.
For a fish taco: Okay so if you have never had a fish taco then your first stop must be The Brigantine {AKA the Brig}. When you walk in make a sharp right and head for the bar {I don't think I have ever eaten in the dining room}. The fish tacos are amazing, the crowd is totally local and there is a view of the Del Mar race track. Ross, Henry and I frequent this bar often, it is where we do all of our TV watching. Oh, plus they have the Four Graces Pinot Gris by the glass!
Shop: You can't go wrong if you go to Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach. I actually don't go to Tucci very often because I tend to scare myself with what I can justify. Everything in Tucci is drop dead gorgeous. And Solo... OMG where do I begin. It is a huge space filled with 10 over-the-top creative vendors that find the most amazing curiosities. Cedros is a street full of fun places to pop your head in. If you go on the north side of Cedros there is the Village Consignment. Karen, the owner {and my art teacher as a child}, has an amazing eye and a beautiful store of goodies.
R&R: I highly suggest walking down 15th Street {the street that L' Auberge is on} and going to the beach, with a good book and a towel. You can't go wrong.

And for the trunk show here is the invite... Please RSVP to Grace asap... I know that space is limited.

  2. Great list Alexis! Solo is hands down one of my favorite "go to" spots for everything home and gifts. I haven't been to The Brigantine in ages, but I love it! Thanks for the trunk show heads up, I'm going to RSVP. I was just on her site the other day trying to decide which Kurta to get so it will be great to see them in person:)
