There were parts of this weekend that were magical. Ross and my anniversary was wonderful. We had a fabulous dinner with lots of champagne, we got a bbq/smoker {love!}, we went to the skate park with friends, dinner with cousins, a mid-night break-in from some of our favorite people which turned into lots of laughs.

Sunday I made the new chocolate cake from Trader Joe's, if you are wondering... it is so easy and most importantly tastes good too.

Although this weekend was wonderful with my guys I carried a heavy heart as I went to a memorial for a girl that I knew in elementary school. The truth is that I didn't know her very well, we would run into each other and occasionally we would chat on Facebook about our sons. But even with that little interaction I have been so deeply moved by her passing. She was missing for a month and a half. During that time I was obsessively checking Facebook to get an update. As I drove down to the Presidio I couldn't help the tears and the deep emotion I felt. There was a part of her service that will stay with me forever; they played recordings of her talking to her son... "Goodnight elephant, Goodnight Aunt Courtney, Goodnight giraffe, Goodnight Anderson Cooper". Kelley, I know how much you loved your son and he knows that too. I also know that you are in peace now. I keep day dreaming that one day Henry and Cory will be on the same team and I will have the opportunity to wrap my arms around your sweet boy and through me give him love from you. I promise I will do that. Rest in peace, sweet Kelley.

  4. I was so moved by the words your wrote for Kelley. As a mother it is truly heartbreaking and difficult to even imagine... I'm going to make a T Joe's chocolate cake for my family just because it's Monday.

  5. I'm glad we finally got to catch up this weekend. I'm usually more talkative but I've been sort of at a loss for words regarding Kelley's passing. I loved hearing the recording too. Kelley will certainly be missed.

I need to make that chocolate cake this week. I am a HUGE fan of the TJs vanilla cake.

And congrats to you and Ross on 5 years!

  6. Oh, I am so beyond sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and a mother, at that. I cannot imagine the heartache. You wrote some truly beautiful words. And I agree with one of the commenters "why is living so hard". It's hard not to feel that way some days.

  7. You are such a loving person Alexis. I'm so sorry about the passing of your friend.
Life is strange. In one weekend you can create the most amazing memories and also be left holding sad ones. Makes me want to be less stingy with my kind words and hugs.
