one month today

Dear Grandma,
One month ago today you passed away. That was how your story was written, August 14, 2010. You were surrounded by the most important people in your life. I loved spending time with your brothers and sister. One afternoon we all had lunch and they were telling stories that I had never heard before. Mostly about your old boyfriends. I loved hearing stories about my mom's dad too. I never really knew anything about him. I loved the story about how he stuck my mom and aunt Nancy in the back of Jack and Sharron's getaway car at their wedding. I think that inspired Ross to get into our friends car this weekend. I think about you every day a million times. I am constantly reminded by you which in a way makes me think you are still here. This weekend at the wedding there was a George Strait song played and I did my best to dance the way you would have. I also have been chewing lots of Doublemint gum, I know that was your favorite. I will never forget you chewing your gum and clapping your hands, always full of energy. Thats why they called you "Lickety Splickety." Julie gave me a card that said... "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." I hope it is true.
I love you Grandma, Punkin

This is beautiful. I smiled reading it because you captured your grandmother's personality in what you wrote. It is amazing how the simple things about them can draw such a picture of who they were. Thank you for sharing it and reminding me of my own grandmother's spirit. I am sorry for your loss, but I am positive that she is shining down on you.

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful, inspiring letter.
ReplyDeleteI have a very close relationship with my grandma, and especially over the past couple of years, it has been difficult to see her age (seemingly faster and faster as time goes by), but I try as hard as I can to cherish the time that I have with her.
