felt wall

Felt has got to be one of the most underrated textiles that there is. Almost every time I look over at the wall of felt at Yardage Town I think... what the heck? who buys that? Now I know... ME! So there was a huge wall of felt at the the New Children's Museum in San Diego. It is so cute. There is a basket with scissors and pieces of felt to make your own objects to stick on the wall. Rather than giving Henry scissors to make his own {which will eventually come down the road} I have been obsessed with making them for him. I haven't gotten the board done yet {our house is busting at the seams as we wait to move our rooms around} but my idea is to staple gun a large strip of blue felt on top and green on the bottom of a piece of plywood. I am going to screw that on to the wall and let Henry have fun with all the pieces that I have made.
What else should I make?

ReplyDeletethis is adorable! i have girlies so i'd do a felt version of "paper dolls."
ReplyDeleteoh stop, alexis! how do you do it all?!?
ReplyDeletethese are amazing.
YOU are a fantastic mom, lady.
We have a felt board almost like yours, I made the kids a train with a bunch of different cars and a railroad track. They love it, but there favorite pieces are the ones I made of our family. One body for each of us and little outfits - sometimes my daughter will burst out in tears because she can't find her Daddy. Visitors get quite the shock till I tell them she is looking for 1 piece of felt in a stack of hundreds. Hope your guys have fun with it. Oh yeah, we like the weather pieces too - sun, clouds, lightening, etc
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I really love this! I'd love to make one for my son. Just one question: How do the felt pieces stick on the felt wall?
ReplyDeleteStephanie... they just stick... I don't know... it is the magic of felt I guess :)
ReplyDeleteDid you cut these out yourself or use a pattern. I can't find any basic ones like this.
ReplyDeleteI've been making one for my niece. I gave her the board for Christmas as well as a giant green triangle (tree) and ornaments and presents to put on it. In Jan I gave her a pouch of snowman parts and a completed snowman to copy (she'salmost 2). In feb I gave her hearts and counting boards so she can count to 5. The boards have a number and piece of Velcro (to give her a hint) of how many pieces to use. In March she'll get a pouch of shamrocks and a pouch of birthday stuff, like presents and a cake. April she gets a pouch of Easter egg parts she can decorate herself. I think in May I will do flowers and weather. June wll be a pouch with the alphabet. July she will get the parts of a flag and a completed one to copy. You see where I'm going with this? Good Luck.
